How to choose, before any names.
Most lists start with logos. Start with your own business instead: write down the answers to these, then read the entries below with them in hand.
An ERP is one system for accounts, sales, purchase, stock and often payroll. If only your accountant uses the books and nothing else needs the same numbers, accounting software may be all you need.
- Who uses it, and from where: one PC in the office, several PCs on one network, or people at the shop, on the road and at home.
- What it must run: accounts and GST only, or sales, stock, purchase and payroll too.
- How many companies, GSTINs, branches and warehouses you have today, and in three years.
- The whole cost over three years: licence or plan, extra users, renewals, cloud access, setup and training.
- Who sets it up and supports you: the vendor, a partner or your own team.
- Compliance: GST returns, TDS and e-invoicing, if your turnover is over the limit.
- Your data: how it comes in from Tally, BUSY or Excel, and how you take it out if you leave.
E-invoicing applies to taxpayers with aggregate turnover above ₹5 crore, from 1 August 2023 (Notification 10/2023-Central Tax).

How we made this list.
The systems appear in alphabetical order. We give no scores, no stars and no ranks, and we quote no reviews.
Every statement about another product comes from that vendor’s own website, read on 15 Oct 2026, with a link to the page. Prices are before GST unless the vendor says otherwise. Prices change, so check the vendor’s page before you buy.
We make PrimoERP, so read its entry knowing that. Its prices are our published prices.

Which kind fits which business.
A short way to narrow the list, from the facts above. It is a starting point for demos, not a verdict.
- Accounts and GST on one office PC, with a one-time licence: TallyPrime Silver or BUSY 21.
- Accounts only, in the cloud, with revenue under ₹25 lakh: Zoho Books’ free plan.
- Pharma, FMCG or retail counters with batch and expiry stock: Marg ERP says it is built for these.
- Many apps beyond ERP, or open source code you can host yourself: Odoo.
- Companies in several countries, or the system on your own servers: SAP Business One.
- Sales, stock, purchase, accounts and HR in one cloud system for a team of 3 to 25: Zoho ERP, Odoo and PrimoERP. Ask each one about payroll, and price each for your number of users, over three years, with setup.
Questions to ask every vendor.
Ask these in the demo, and ask for the answers in writing. The same questions go to us.
- What will I pay for my number of users over three years, with renewals and add-ons?
- What does setup cost, who does it, and how long does it take?
- Which plan includes GST returns, TDS and e-invoicing?
- How do you bring in my data from Tally, BUSY or Excel, and check the opening balances?
- Can my team use it from outside the office, and on a Mac?
- What happens to my data, and to the software, if I stop paying?
Questions about choosing an ERP in India.
What is the best ERP software for a small business in India?
The one that fits how you work. For accounts and GST on office PCs, TallyPrime, BUSY and Marg sell installed software. For accounts in the cloud, Zoho Books has a free plan under ₹25 lakh revenue. For sales, stock, purchase and payroll in one cloud system, compare Zoho ERP, Odoo, SAP Business One and PrimoERP on users, setup and support.
Is there free ERP software in India?
Some. Odoo offers one app free with unlimited users, and Odoo Community is open source. Zoho Books has a free plan while revenue stays under ₹25 lakh. PrimoERP has no free plan; it has a 14-day free trial with no card.
How much does ERP software cost for a small business in India?
Before GST, the cloud plans on this page run from free to ₹2,499 per user a month, one-time licences run from ₹11,000 (BUSY 21 Basic) to ₹67,500 (TallyPrime Gold), and SAP Business One is quote-only. Setup, training, extra users and renewals come on top. Our guide to ERP cost in India works through a first-year total.
Which ERP software works on a Mac?
Cloud systems run in a web browser, so they work on a Mac: Zoho Books, Zoho ERP, Odoo Online and PrimoERP among them. Tally’s own help page says TallyPrime installs on Windows only.
Do I need an ERP, or is accounting software enough?
If only your accountant uses the system and you do not run sales, stock or payroll in it, accounting software is enough. Once sales, stock, purchase and payroll need the same numbers, an ERP saves typing them twice.
Why is PrimoERP on a list written by PrimoERP?
Because we make it, and you will compare it anyway. It sits in alphabetical order with the others, with our published prices, and we say where another system fits better.
